Better Diabetes management

Diabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels need to be closely monitored in order to prevent complications. The aim of diabetes management is to keep blood glucose levels as close to the target range between 4 to 6 mmol/L (fasting) (Diabetes Australia).

Even with medication, blood sugar levels may not be well managed, which can result in more and more insulin being prescribed to keep levels in check. Insulin resistance can also occur and increase over time if diet and lifestyle factors are not controlled.

While diabetes medication is essential for any diabetic, better diabetes management is within the scope of naturopathic assistance.

Here’s what we can aim for:

·         Reduce blood sugar readings via guided lifestyle changes (diet and exercise)

·         Improve glucose uptake into cells using key nutrients to improve insulin sensitivity

·         Reduce excess body weight and improve body composition by improving blood glucose disposal

·         Reduce the need for an increase in medication in the longer term

With close monitoring and in conjunction with your GP, we can reduce the need for excessive insulin use, achieve a healthier body composition, and better long term health outcomes for your future.

I credit my improved readings with a very beneficial combination of modalities (conventional medication and naturopathic supplementation).” (M.P., Geelong)
