Breaking the cycle of iron deficiency

Iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia are common problems in girls, menstruating and pregnant women; leading to fatigue, lowered immunity, irritability and poor concentration, among other ill-effects.

Despite iron supplementation and/or infusion, the situation can be poorly managed, with most people suffering a relapse after a period of time.

Treating iron deficiency involves more than iron supplementation – we need to look at the causes of the depletion and manage those health areas; because living with low iron and then waiting for the crash in energy levels before getting a ‘top up’ - which eventually ends up where you began - is not a way to live!

I help women overcome iron deficiency by looking at these factors:
>dietary sources of iron and nutritional cofactors needed for iron absorption
>other nutritional deficiencies which contribute to low iron
>hormone regulation (heavy menstruation leads to iron losses)
>immune health (often, repeated acute infections impacts iron utilisation)
>issues with haemoglobin synthesis (affecting iron transport)
>family history/genetic disorders
>other disorders impacting iron reserves

It’s one thing to supplement with iron, but if there are other processes impacting how it is absorbed and/or utilised in the body, the problem may not ultimately get solved, and is bound to recur.
